Year 3: 2020-2021

Welcome to Year 3, the first class in Key Stage 2. The staff are Ms Raihana.

Monday 19th October 2020

 Hi Everyone,

Below is a link to the Wednesday Word. Please share the Gospel at home. What was Jesus trying to tell us? How will it change the way we act this week?

"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." What do think Jesus meant for us to understand?

The readings of the previous two weeks told about Jesus explaining that people were not following what God had asked of them. It also told of God inviting all people to follow him not just a chosen few.

Find the reading in your copy of the Gospel at home and share as a family.

Send in a photo of you sharing the Gospel at home.

Where do you keep your copy of the Gospel or Bible?

Congratulations: Look who won last weeks Gospel challenge and new set of Rosary Beads.

Take Care and God Bless

In this weeks Gospel  Jesus spoke to us about seeds falling on different ground.

With God's support the plants will flourish.

As I came to school today I noticed this in the Church carpark.

The first picture shows a harsh and inhospitable environment.

However with a closer look I found a beautiful plant.

Let's do God's work and be like fertile soil.

Our challenge is to ensure that we help all the  people we meet to flourish like this beautiful flower.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and enjoying your Half term break.

I have a fun activity for you all to enjoy.

How well do you know the adults at St Paul's?

All you have to do is write the names of each of the adults under their photo. Sounds easy.

Things are not always as easy  as they first seem.

I will give bonus points if you can  include first name and surname.

Good Luck

See the attached sheet

In this weeks Gospel, Jesus talks to his Father. Explaining that he has completed his task on earth. Jesus tells his Father that he has shared his message with us and we understand. The gospel reflects many of the things we say at mass in our profession of our faith through the Nicene Creed.

Take some time  this week to reflect on the Nicene Creed and our beliefs.

Good morning Year 3,

I'll share my questions: 'In Charlotte's web why did Fern have to get a pet pig, why not a lamb?' 'Why did the author want a spider to be best friends with Wilbur, why not a butterfly or another animal?'

Good morning Year 3,

How are you all feeling? What feeling numbers would you like to share with me? My feeling number is 8. I'm going to do some exercise soon, because too much screen time or sitting in one position is very bad for you. I will try and share some great exercises to help you.

Thank you for all the great work handed in so far, don't forget to do the spelling tests. If you've joined late and or you haven't done any previous tests, don't worry you can send them in this week or next.

Thursday 7th May 2020

Good morning everyone,

Today is the last day of the school week because tomorrow is Bank holiday. This week was a special week as I got to speak to you all on the phone and it was lovely hearing your voices. I'm so proud of you for being so good for your parents and doing such hard work, well done.

I learnt so much about what everyone was doing like Maisie has learnt to ride her bike now (hoorayyy!!), Eithne's got a new puppy called Arthur, Tatiana's mum got an App called ADOBE which lets her take pictures on the phone and turn it into a worksheet, Shannon's using ZOOM to do her Italian lessons, others are doing lots and lots of work for the Polish school and best of all you get to see Father Perry doing Mass. Carlos spoke for so long sharing so many facts and told me how to make compost for my plants.

I even got to speak to Renae's little sister and her older brother, who I taught many years back in Year 5 as well as Daniel's little sister lovely Rose, who loves playing with Maisie. The rest of you were being super stars which I knew you would be, because you are so amazing!!

I am looking forward to seeing you all soon in our class, as soon as it's safe and you'll have to share what you've done and ofcourse it will all have to be displayed in the class, maybe even shared in the assembly.

As it's the last day, you know it's also the day to celebrate STAR of the WEEK!! So without further ado, the sparkling, shining stars of this week arrrre: Carlos, Sara, Shannon and Tatiana for working tirelessly on your tasks. It was clear to see you were dedicated to achieveing your best and eager to send in your work to be checked. Congratulations!

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy your exercise,  Love Miss Raihana xx

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good morning everyone,

Well done for working hard on this week's tasks. I'm really liking the poems that have been coming in. So here's one I made for you. I was inspired by PSHE lessons and some of the talking that goes on in the school:

I like to go for walks, read and spend lots of time with me

Yeah but I like to show off also shout and scream when I'm happy

Oh that's nice, that's really interesting

I know, I AM really interesting!

I've got an amazing pencil case, bag and cool shoes, how about you?

I've also got things that I need, I'm ready for school

My birthday presents were amazing, I got this, that and that and an iPhone

Happy birthday to you they sound wonderful

My mum is so great and so is my dad, aunties, uncles and grandparents too

Yes everyone is a gift in our lives in big ways and small

Well WHAT do you have? Who are they? Where are they-you never seem to say??!!

THEY'RE all inside me and inside others but you can't see:

To name a few, love, loyalty,  honesty and courage

Respect, open mind and heart and knowledge

I show them through my actions and through timely words

You and I just do things differently and that's how life's meant to be

We are meant to be different characters in life's journey

Be what and who you want to be, never mind me!!!

By Miss Raihana

Is there a pattern in this poem? What is it? I haven't got a title for my poem yet but maybe you can suggest one. Don't say potatoes (though that's my second favourite food in the world).

Please follow the links for a copy of the Wednesday word. It has lots of fun activities for your children to do.

Stay safe and God Bless

Good morning Year 3,

I hope you are feeling well and did your morning chores (made your bed, breakfast etc), it's really tempting to become lazy but YOU MUSN'T! It's important to keep to a timetable every day- your body and your mind needs it. That doesn't mean you can't have lots of little rests, you just need to be busy and active.

NEWS FLASH: I am so excited because all the teachers in the school will be calling all their students in the class to talk to them. So I will start today and I wonder how many children I will speak with by the end of today. Your parents have been informed already so I'm sure they've told you that you'll be getting a call from me this week. I am really looking forward to hearing your voices!

Keep working hard little munchkins and speak soooon,

Miss Raihana xx

Monday 4th May 2020

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all well and had a good weekend. Would you believe that some children have already started on the 3D shapes hunt challenge. I've already got pictures sent to Miss Agnes, great job. Don't forget to write down how many edges, vertices and faces they have. Let's see who can remember them, if not have a look at YouTube to help you.

Have a lovely day and I'll see you back in the class,

Love Miss Raihana

Friday 1st May 2020

Good morning everyone,

Friday is here once again and yes you've guessed it's the day for the STARS-of-the-WEEK!! But I won't mention them just yet- you'll just have to wait till the newsflash later on in the day. ; )

Thank you for all the wonderful work Year 3 and also to all the equally wonderful parents, who have been juggling everything but still finding the time to send in the tasks so promptly.

Soooo are you readyyy, are you steadyyy..?? It was too difficult to choose today, you were all just too hard working and enthusiastic! However, our STARRS of this week goes to: Eithne, Holly, Joanna and Maya- for a fantastic effort all across the subjects. Well done to you all - it's a girl's team this week. But like I said it was soo difficult this week to choose.

I think I will give you another task to do to help me decide next week...

Task: 1) Do you remember the names and properties of 3D shapes, (things that have faces (curved, flat), edges, vertices, symmetry etc)? Why don't you go on a 3D-shape hunt around your home and then label their properties using paper? Or you can write down the name of the shapes and list their properties on a paper.

2) Sort the 3D shapes into groups and see how they're similar or different.

3) Why not make 3D shapes if you can. Have fun exploring!

Also, please keep memorising your division and multiplication facts for 3, 4 and 8 times tables!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Raihana x

Thursday 30th April 2020

Good morning Year 3,

What did you all have for breakfast? I hope it was yummy and gave you lots of energy. It's the last day of April today- I can't believe how time flies, this is why we have to make every day special with whatever we have.

So maybe you knew it was international dance day yesterday and I had fun trying to perform different types of dance moves, Istill can't do the floss- you all have to show me. Have a look at Newsround  and see if you can do any others.

NEWS FLASH: Well done to the amazing performers who have sent in video clips of them performing their poem, I loved the props, the different tunes- I felt like I was back in class. Keep them coming super stars!

I'll leave you with one of the songs I've shared with you in class- my friend reminded me of it recently,  (what does 'ecrit' mean?)  :)

See you back in the class,

Love Miss Raihana xx

Wednesday 29th April 2020

Good morning Year 3,

Hope you all slept well. The sky is nice and bright, I think we should all go and exercise soon. Don't forget to eat yummy fruits and vegetables too.

Miss you lots,

Miss Raihana

Good morning Year 3 team,

Here are the announcements for today. So our learning will be taking place not back in our classroom :_(    but in Google classroom. Teachers will be giving children online tasks from: English, Maths, R.E and another topic on Mondays.

All work is to be returned the next Friday. I will share video clips, worksheets, online games or other resources to help you with your learning- just like we do in class. You can complete the sheets by writing on it, saving it and then sending it online. Or for now you can do it on your books or paper and sending a picture of what you did.

So well done if you've logged onto Google classroom already! If you are in contact with anyone in the class make sure you tell them to join too. We have 9 children already- how many will join by the end of today I wonder.

Lastly, WELL DONE to Maya for sending in her timestable tests and her spelling test score yesterday. Miss Raihana was in her Google classroom till very late so she didn't get the score till very late.... You should see the class it's a mess!!! : D  : D   :-P

Keep sending the spelling test scores and the timestable tests...This is too exciting!!!

NEWS FLAAASH- I love the art work Stefanie and Joanna that you sent into school! Beautiful!!

Lots of Love Miss Raihana xx

Monday 20th April 2020

Welcome back Year 3! I hope your Easter has been restful and that everyone is staying safe and healthy. Did you eat lots of yummy chocolates? I know you did :):)

I would like us to switch our learning brains back on for the Summer Term Learning:

Spelling-  Ask your parents to test you on week 4's spelling list that was sent home. Then you can email your score to the school admin to pass on to me. Remember it's  the '-ei, -eigh sounds like ‘ay’' list. I wonder who will get 10/10...hmmm

AR, AM- Keep up with your work on Reading and Maths and think carefully when you do the tests. If you're working from the book that's also fine.

Timestable- If your learning goal (target) was to know and quickly recall the 3, 4 or 8 times table I would like you to be tested by your parents. If you think you are ready to be a Timestable King or Queen why not get a picture of your test after you completed it with your parent(s) and send it to the school admin email to pass on to me.

NEEWS FLAAAASHHH- WELL DONE Maise you've already done the spelling test and we have received your score!!! Which children will be next? This is too exciting.

That's all for now,

Miss Raihana :)

The Servant King

Questions to think about:

Why do we call Jesus the Servant King?

How did he arrive into Jerusalem?

How was his arrival different to a King?

What did the crowds shout?

What did they do?

The Passover

Exodus 12:14 , Matt:26:17,  Luke 22:7

Jesus arrived in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover.

What was Jesus remembering when celebrating passover?

How did Jesus and the apostles celebrate passover?

How do we as Catholics ,remember these events of the in our lives ?

How do Jewish people celebrate the Passover today?

What did Jesus do to show he was the servant King?

The Greatest Commandment

What does Jesus say is the greatest Commandment?

Friday 3rd April

Good morning Year 3 how are you all today? So today is the end of the Spring term and if we were in class you'd be very excited. Do you know what else you'd be excited about? Yup- STAR OF THE WEEK......Sooooo this week's stars of the week are: Maisie, Stefanie and Daniel!! Well done. Keep working and ask your parents to send in pictures of any learning you might be doing.

I've added a picture of me, it was taken in a labyrinth under a famous castle in my recent trip to Budapest. There were so many caves and the walk was quite long AND above all, it was extremely dark in some places, which was super scary for me! Thankfully I wasn't there for too long and went off to do things above the ground- you would've loved playing hide and seek there. Oh and that's the day I did 37,000 steps... a super duper record I'm still waiting to beat.

What's your plan for today? I completed yesterday's 100 sit ups challenge along with the daily walk, today I will do my daily walk and do some yoga to strengthen and lengthen my muscles. Why don't you join me doing yoga:

RE- Something for you to think about:

1) What is Palm Sunday?

2) What is Holy week?

3) What do palm leaves mean? What do we try to remember?

Reflection- I have been reflecting on the word 'patience' (it means staying calm  without getting too angry or sad when there's trouble or pain).  Many people around the world have been showing patience, especially children. By being patient we are also following our role models in the Bible. Jesus and Mary showed such beautiful patience but I wonder if you can think of other people in the Bible who were patient. What about you- have you been trying to be patient? How does it feel? Do you think you can be better at it? Being calm when things are annoying, hard or painful is like having super powers. So who's got super powers in Year 3?!!

I'll leave you all with a prayer:

'Dear God, Please help us all stay safe and healthy. Give courage to those who may feel scared and strengthen us with your power of love, kindness, mercy and knowledge of your ways. Let us learn about you, learn from you and follow in your foot steps. Help us  live our lives in peace and always be grateful about every single thing you have given us so freely, like the air we breathe, the beautiful animals and trees and our families. Amen'

Eat lots of yummy chocolates Year 3 and keep up with your targets- (You know who you are!!)

NEWS FLAAASH- Well done to Olivier and Julia for sending such magnificent work on   volcanoes. How can you draw so well? I'm going to go and practice again to be just like you. I'm not going to give up!

As you know it's the beginning of Easter holidays, so you can have some learning breaks. I will stop being 'Miss Raihana' for a while and do all the other things I do in 'Me Time' like read books, learn a new dance that has been set as a challenge- it involves wearing  'saree' (Indian traditional outfit) but I keep falling over because I don't know how to wear one!! : D I think I will just try and learn the floss and all the other moves you all were doing. What will you be doing?- Do something different, something wacky and write it all down in your diary.

Happy Easter my wonderful munchkins, keep up your giggles- I miss them :_ (

Lots of love, Miss Raihana xx

Take the  Palm Sunday challenge!

Hi Year Three.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday.

I would like you all to make a palm and put it in your window so people passing by will know it is Palm Sunday. I have attached a link below showing how to make a palm.

Write a news report of what it would have been like to be in the crowds when Jesus arrived in to Jerusalem .

Make sure to include quotes from people who were there.

Have a catchy headline.

Pictures with captions.

Use the link below to read 4 different versions of the events of Palm Sunday.

Or use a Bible to find the scripture passages yourself.

Mr O

Hi Year 3,

I am renovating my house. What should I use on my roof;

Limestone tiles or slate tiles?

Thursday 2nd April

Good afternoon Team Year 3. Hope you slept well and did some exercise-maybe by following PE with Joe if not here's the link (remember to have a break if you get tired):

I wanted us to revisit some learning on Rocks:

1) How can we compare two types of rocks like limestone and slate? (That means find out how they may be similar, different or are special). I was thinking that trying to take them for a walk and  to eat them might not be a good way to compare. (I can hear you all laughing again, as you usually do). What are your ideas?

2) Can you find out the names of different types of rocks that are used to make jewellery?

3) Revise how fossils and soils are made! (Hint-look at the homework sheet you did on soil for help). Below are some YouTube links for fun: what is soil? how to protect soil? Why is soil useful?

Why don't you share your answers or any other learning by taking a picture and emailing it to the school link:

NEWS JUST IN (News flash- as we say in class)- Well done to Daniel and Stefanie for sending in your lovely work on what appears to be an erupting volcano and a fact sheet on Egypt. Keep the lovely work coming my amazing Year 3! Time for my daily walk and then 100 sit ups! I'll tell you how that goes tomorrow.

Bye for now, love Miss Raihana x

 Wednesday 1st  April

Hello everyone, what was special about today? What special things did you write in your diaries?  Guess what I'll be trying to do today? Draw a volcano and use all my artistic skills! I bet you are all giggling now because you know Miss Raihana's art skills are no way as amazing as yours. : D

Some of you might be working on the Maths sheets and haven't yet managed to get on the AM quiz but when you can, have a go. On Friday I will be announcing Year 3's star of the week so keep up the fantastic work.

Remember what we said in PSHE and in many of our lessons  'Always do your very best and you never need to compare yourself to others'.  As part of PSHE why don't you keep a kindness calendar. You can find the calendar on the link below for your parents to print. Remember it is very important to be kind to ourselves as well as to others. So for example if you find something difficult, allow yourself to feel sad or annoyed but go and talk about it or do something to help you take your mind of it and try again but say kind things to yourself like 'Come on, you can do it' or 'I'll get there, it just needs a little more time'.  Remember we talked about the people who had to make fire or the light bulb for the first time- they didn't give up!

Keep yourselves happy and healthy AND please follow instructions from your parents- I will be checking!!!

Keeping you all in my prayers and sending you lots of love, Miss Raihana xx

Tuesday 31st March

Hello Year 3 how are you all doing with your work on Maths? I wonder if we have another 'Times table king' or 'Queen' in our class. Give yourselves 2-3 minutes and see how many of the 3, 4, 8, 9 times table you can write down, or you can play 'Hit the Button'. If you've mastered them go on to the 11 (easy, peasy), 12 or even the 13 times table!!!

Don't forget to write your diary entry regularly. I want to read them all when I see you next- I can't wait to see all the beautiful joined writing and I bet you will remember to use different punctuation and add details to your sentences.

Well done to those of you who have been learning about volcanoes and even had a chance at making your own models. I saw Maisie's in the classroom- it was very colourful and had fun details. I would love to see some more, take pictures and send them to the link below so we can share them. Why not make an information booklet about volcanoes?!

Missing you all, Miss Raihana x
