Year 4: 2020-2021

Monday 19th October 2020

 Hi Everyone,

Below is a link to the Wednesday Word. Please share the Gospel at home. What was Jesus trying to tell us? How will it change the way we act this week?

"Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." What do think Jesus meant for us to understand?

The readings of the previous two weeks told about Jesus explaining that people were not following what God had asked of them. It also told of God inviting all people to follow him not just a chosen few.

Find the reading in your copy of the Gospel at home and share as a family.

Send in a photo of you sharing the Gospel at home.

Where do you keep your copy of the Gospel or Bible?

Congratulations: Look who won last weeks Gospel challenge and new set of Rosary Beads.

Take Care and God Bless

In this weeks Gospel  Jesus spoke to us about seeds falling on different ground.

With God's support the plants will flourish.

As I came to school today I noticed this in the Church carpark.

The first picture shows a harsh and inhospitable environment.

However with a closer look I found a beautiful plant.

Let's do God's work and be like fertile soil.

Our challenge is to ensure that we help all the  people we meet to flourish like this beautiful flower.

Morning Year 4! This week it looks like the weather is going to be a little bit cooler. I'm so happy about that especially as we are returning to school this week! I am so excited to see you all and remember to expect a call from me in the coming days to prepare you for your day. If I don't manage to get hold of you, don't worry, I'll leave a message and all you have to do is write a message on here letting me know when it would be suitable to contact you again, before we go back to school. As we are going back to school, we're not going to be setting a foundation subject or RE on Google Classroom. Instead, you'll just have a Maths and an English to complete on Google Classrooms. In school, we'll be making the most of the outdoors and doing Art, PE and going up to the forest to explore! Make sure to also check out the competition that Mrs Smith has posted on our Google Classroom, I'm certain that you all have 500 words in you to write a story about such an important matter! In the meantime, I've found this amazing video on how to make different paper airplanes. We're not talking paper airplanes that have still wings, like a normal airplane but wings that ACTUALLY FLAP! I'm in awe. Going to have a go at doing one later! I've attached the link below. My favourite has to be the bat one. Let me know how yours get on and how far they go... I wonder who's will go the furtherest? Have a great Monday! Mr.R

Friday 26/6/2020

Monday 29th June is the feast of St Peter and St Paul, we would invite children to investigate the life of St Paul and share their information on Google Classroom.

Above are 4 images of St Paul, all are different but have similarities.

What is similar and what does it represent?

Below is a link to a simple animation about Paul’s life.

Please share this prayer to St Paul with your friends and family.

St Paul is a great example of how with God's help we can all change for the better.

Prayer to Saint Paul the Apostle

O Glorious Saint Paul, after persecuting the Church you became by God’s grace its most zealous Apostle. To carry the knowledge of Jesus, our Divine Saviour, to the uttermost parts of the earth, you joyfully endured prison, scourging, stoning, and shipwreck, as well as all manner of persecutions culminating in the shedding of the last drop of your blood for our Lord Jesus Christ. Obtain for us the grace to labour strenuously to bring the faith to others and to accept any trials and tribulations that may come our way. Help us to be inspired by your Epistles and to partake of your indomitable love for Jesus, so that after we have finished our course we may join you in praising Him in Heaven for all eternity. Amen.

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Thank you for submitting your handwriting this week. It was a true joy to see that you have sustained that high level you all worked hard to reach. As non essential shops start to reopen, remember, if you go out in Wood green maintain your social distancing! This weekend, I was fortunate enough to see my grandmother in person for the first time in months! :) I'm sure you will all start to do the same soon if you already have not! This weeks work: -Maths: 24 hour clock. -English: Grammar on apostrophes and a comprehension on a poem. -RE: The communion of saints. -History: The first crusade. Any issues let me know! Good luck Mr.R

Hello all, what have you all been doing this week? In other news, I've attached some links for you to look at that are related to drawing skills and scratch skills. Scratch activities

: Drawing activities: Here are some boredom busters for you to try! Hope you enjoy them! Mr.R

Hello kids ! As we return to the new 'normal' some other issues are surfacing around the world. This morning I read an article (attached below) about how disposable masks are appearing in the oceans more than jellyfish! I was astounded! What do you think we could do to stop this? Should we only be selling reusable masks? Or are disposable masks the only safe way to protect ourselves from the virus? What do you think? I've also attached a socially responsible beach guide, so if you're thinking of heading to the beach when the weather gets lovely, you can do your best to keep the beaches lovely and clean and save our sea animals. Maybe you could even bring a bin bag and rubbish pick to do your own beach clean?

Good morning all! I hope you all didn't get too wet with the storm on Saturday! Watch newsround below, it has a segment on the BLM protests and also a great part about plastic in the oceans. Today is world ocean day! Great timing! This week you must finish your non chronological report in full, in addition, you have geography, maths and RE to be getting on with. PLEASE NOTE: Don't do the English all in one day... you will find it hard and loose focus, try a paragraph a day this week! If you have not seen the video the staff made for you all, I recommend watching it. (I posted this on Friday below.) Stay safe! Mr.R

Howdy year four! What have you all been up to? Yesterday, I went into school to set up our classroom before we return (It was so strange, the class seems so much bigger without you all there! Much more peaceful :) I am looking forward to seeing some of you return, hopefully in a few weeks!) Q. What is your happiest memory of our classroom?

Hello Kids!

Which Cardinal will be elected the next Pope after Pope Francis? This question is unknown. However, there is a growing belief that this newly elected Cardinal may be his successor... What do you think? Would you like him as Pope? He would become the first Pope of Asian decent! :)

Good morning everyone, today I ask you all to pray for the turbulent situation in the USA and the wider world. More than ever, we must unite in prayer and adopt kindness, peace and love as our core principles and to love one another. As always, message me if you need help or just to talk :) I will be going into school on Thursday with the other teachers for a training day. It will be remarkably strange after nearly 11 weeks! (I hope no body had secret food in their trays :o)

Hello year 4 :) How was your half term? I have given you the following tasks this week: English, Maths, Geography, Re. Some of you have nearly reached the end of available tasks for accelerated maths! Well done, phenomenal effort!

This month could see some of us return to school. While we know year 1, 6 and reception are heading back, we could be coming back towards the end of the month /term.

Last week I cycled up to Ally Pally and down towards our school and thought of you all. I can't wait to see how you have all grown. Miss you all.

Message me if you have any problems... or simply to say hello!

Tuesday 26/5/2020

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and enjoying your Half term break.

I have a fun activity for you all to enjoy.

How well do you know the adults at St Paul's?

All you have to do is write the names of each of the adults under their photo. Sounds easy.

Things are not always as easy  as they first seem.

I will give bonus points if you can  include first name and surname.

Good Luck

See the attached sheet

Mr O

Hello year four, well done for six weeks of adjusting to google classrooms! We have reached the end of half term and you have a week off next week. Enjoy the sunshine and renewed freedom of enjoying the parks and green areas again.

Instead, check out the class webpage and try any activities you have not done. There are so many inspiring, creative and fun things to do.

Once again, well done to everyone for doing such high quality work, keep it up and hopefully I'll see you all again next half term before summer term ends. :)

Miss you all.

Please join me in this prayer to St.Paul. :

O Glorious Saint Paul, after persecuting the Church you became by God’s grace its most zealous Apostle. To carry the knowledge of Jesus, our Divine Savior, to the uttermost parts of the earth, you joyfully endured prison, scourging, stoning, and shipwreck, as well as all manner of persecutions culminating in the shedding of the last drop of your blood for our Lord Jesus Christ. Obtain for us the grace to labor strenuously to bring the faith to others and to accept any trials and tribulations that may come our way. Amen.

Hi everyone, sorry for the later post than usual. I was in a staff video call concerning going back to school. Vikki, you will not have any homework over next week as it is half term.

How are you all today? The sun is out again! :)

Today is Ascension day! Can you tell me what that means in the Catholic calendar?

This week is Mental Health Awareness week in the UK. At the moment, it is especially important that we look after each other, and strive to have better mental health. One of of creating that feel good feeling is to watch something you enjoy. See below an article for you to read! It has attached lots and lots of feel good movies for your age.

What you can do is later, in the evening, when you're worn out by the ever glowing and warm sun, you can pick a film and watch it with your family. Then below you can write your very own review of the movie and analyse if it really was a feel good movie that you would watch again and let your friends know by posting your reviews! Hope you enjoy this activity. I would love to hear which movies you pick.

Enjoy your days, and make sure to be safe in the sun!

Sunday 10/5/2020

I would encourage all families to join in the Rosary. It is simple to register on the parish website see the link below.

Hello young Jedi, how are you? I've been blown away by the incredible first paragraphs of your autobiographies so far! Such depth and care has been taken to follow the syle of the text, well done. Furthermore, you all look adorable as toddlers :)

I will be handing these back to you next week with corrections. Meanwhile, think about TWO memories to write about in detail, that will form the next two paragraphs. For example, mine was when I was shouted at by my Y3 teacher for not knowing how to divide. My second memory was when I finished secondary school.

What will yours be? Make sure it is a powerful one with lots to talk about.

Keep up the good work and check here for additional activities

Watch the video of the top 5 Arsenal goals of 2019. We want you to create your best commentary to describe the goals. Click on the video image below to go to the video. Either write your commentary on some scrap paper or on the Double Club Writing Template. You could perform your goal commentary for the people at home.

DESCRIBE THE ACTION—What happened? Who did it? USE ADJECTIVES— Graceful, strong, impressive, energetic USE ADVERBS— Calmly, perfectly, powerfully, instinctively DESCRIBE THE EMOTION—How do the players and fans feel?

Get creative!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a fun filled weekend and enjoyed the sunshine, however brief. I've just finished my Joe Wicks workout and am ready to answer any questions you have about this weeks work.

This week's work :
1. English: We are going to write a short autobiography in English this week and next. You are required to create a timeline of your life to help you then write the first two paragraphs. This should be fun and certainly interesting! Check out my examples all along the way. Don't write anything you don't want to!

2. Maths decimals and money: Maths this week is based around money and decimals. Only send me what I have assigned and no more.

3. RE: The life of St.Peter and his role as the first Pope. You will have to write a short letter to Jesus (see task).

4. History: Our new topic is on the Byzantine Empire... what is that I hear you say? After the Roman Empire became too large, it split into two separate areas: The Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire. The task is to write a diary entry from the perspective of a time-traveller.

REMEMBER: You need to download all my attachments to help you. In addition, to write on documents you need to insert text boxes. Please read the instructions on each task throughly.

Finally, it has been magnificent viewing all your comments to each other, keep it up, we all miss one another! :)

I will be able to answer you Monday - Friday 09:00 - 18:00

Friday 24/4/2020

Welcome to Year 4. The staff are Mr Rose and Ms Veronica.

Good morning and happy St.Georges day to you all! It has been great reading all your submitted work! I know some of you have had problems with editing or uploading your answers but remember this is our first set of tasks to become aquatinted with this system. Therefore, don't panic if you are finding something hard... It's part of learning.

Next Monday, we will have a fresh set of lessons including x1 Maths x1 English and SPAG x1 RE and X1 History for you to complete. They will be longer and take more time to complete.

While you can't talk to each other on this, you can see each others' answers if I post a question like I did yesterday for Earth day.

Today I will post a new question and a chance for you all to be creative!

Q.Who was St.George and what is he famously known for? Do you think this is true? Explain your reasoning.

In addition to this question, I would like you to create an information poster about St.George.
When you're complete send it back to me via the school website.

Steps to success:
1. Include a title, a short explanation of who he was, and what he is best known for according to legend.
2. At least 4 did you know facts.
3. Lots of images. You can copy and paste these from the internet or draw them.

Stay safe!

Welcome back crazy cats and kittens!

The Servant King

Questions to think about:

Why do we call Jesus the Servant King?

How did he arrive into Jerusalem?

How was his arrival different to a King?

What did the crowds shout?

What did they do?

The Passover

Exodus 12:14 , Matt:26:17,  Luke 22:7

Jesus arrived in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover.

What was Jesus remembering when celebrating passover?

How did Jesus and the apostles celebrate passover?

How do we as Catholics ,remember these events of the in our lives ?

How do Jewish people celebrate the Passover today?

What did Jesus do to show he was the servant King?

The Greatest Commandment

What does Jesus say is the greatest Commandment?

Good morning everyone!

Today's the day! Star of the week! Drum roll please...

Congratulations to Bartosz! Bartoszthis week you have proven your Maths dedication and skill by accessing Accelerated Maths daily and striving to perform highly. I'm really proud of what you have achieved so far. Keep it up!

I am also really proud of all of those who have been regularly using Accelerated Reader and Maths. These children are:  Arlo, Hailey, Kosibella, Patrycja, Victoria, Natalia,  Oskar W, Alex D! You're making all of us at school proud.

A special shout out to Oskar W and Casper for sending in pictures of their home learning to the school website! Casper, looking enthusiastic your PE with Joe Wicks! Extremely funny poses :) Oskar W, you too looking studious with your learning! P.s I'M SO JEALOUS OF ALL YOUR TOYS XD

Today is the beginning of the Easter Holidays. Please still read every day for at least 20 minutes. It doesn't have to be a book from school but it can be a book from home, a magazine, a newspaper or anything else you may find interesting. Remember to look on the David Walliams website as he is releasing free audio stories every day at 11 am, so have a listen on

White Rose Maths has also made their online resources available to children for the duration of Home Learning: Follow this link to find resources you can use to develop your maths skills. There are YouTube videos and activities on there as well. All of which takes around half an hour. Make it extra fun by getting your green pens out and marking it as the answers are on the website. The website is updated weekly with new activities so make sure you utilise the resources.

Please be sure to show me what you have been up to by sending in any work or activities you have completed with your learning time! Here is where to email it to: I can't wait to see it!

Lastly, have a lovely holiday. I will be back in touch on Monday 20th April.

Make sure to keep active, safe and remember to say your prayers:

Father God, I come to say thank you for your love today,

Thank you for my family and all the friends you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night and in the morning send your light.

Take the  Palm Sunday challenge!

Hi Year Four.

This Sunday is Palm Sunday.

I would like you all to make a palm and put it in your window so people passing by will know it is Palm Sunday. I have attached a link below showing how to make a palm, it looks a bit tricky but if any class can do it; It will be Year 4.

Write a news report of what it would have been like to be in the crowds when Jesus arrived in to Jerusalem .

Make sure to include quotes from people who were there.

Have a catchy headline.

Pictures with captions.

Use the link below to read 4 different versions of the events of Palm Sunday.

Or use a Bible to find the scripture passages yourself.

2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024

Happy April Fools Year 4 and parents!

Here is a link to MC Grammar's website:

Scroll down to the rap about prepositions. There is both the video to watch and the lyrics which you can download.

1. Try and remember what a preposition is and when you would use it.

2. Write five sentences using prepositions. Try to use a variety and see if you can challenge yourself by writing different types of sentences (simple, compound and complex sentences).

3. Copy this passage onto a platform you can edit and underline all the prepositions. There are twenty-two to find!

It was on the trip down the mountain that the real excitement began. We were winding down the narrow road at a leisurely pace when, all of a sudden, a car traveling in the opposite direction moved out of its lane and into ours. Our driver swerved suddenly and managed to avoid the oncoming car, but the van did not stay on the road. It swerved off the road and, due to the heavy load it was carrying, tipped over. Luckily for those of us in the van, it did not tumble down the mountainside but instead stopped on a ledge overhanging a deep precipice. We tried to push the van upright; however, it was not a great surprise that, despite our best efforts, we were unable to move the van even an inch. We had to wait for hours for help to arrive, but this time was spent quite usefully in admiring the view, in noticing just how steep the mountainside was, and in feeling thankful that we were where we were.

Hope you have fun learning about prepositions! MC Grammar is a great way to learn about different complex grammar skills. Have a browse of some other videos!

Update: On Friday, I will be announcing who is our Star of the Week! There will also be a special award, in place of the attendance award, for the class that has used Accelerated Maths and Reader the most! We can win this Year 4!

Miss you all, Mr, Rose :)
